Obsessions are persistent concerns about things such as dirt, germs, other people or the acceptability of your thoughts. Compulsions include excessive actions such as hand washing or counting, and rituals such as arranging things or avoiding stepping on sidewalk cracks. When such obsessions/compulsions are severe, they are known as Obsessive-compulsive Disorder (OCD). Therapy, often in conjunction with medication, can help you better understand your condition, develop a strong support system, and formulate an appropriate treatment plan.
